Uganda’s largest park is named after the Nile’s dramatic plunge through a narrow cleft in the rift valley scarp. The river is home to hundreds of Hippos, Crocodiles and waterbirds while big game lives in the grassland north of the river and primates in forests to south.
Conservation Importance
Giraffes, Buffaloes, Elephants, Uganda Kobs, Hyenas, Oribis,Hartebeests, Lions, and leopards.
The park also protects a 20-30km stretch of River Nile as a breeding area for fish, hippos, Nile crocodiles and water birds. Ecosystem types range from savannah grassland, woodland, tropical rainforests, rivers and swamps. In this wide range of habitat, 479 species of birds have been recorded, 87 species of mammals and 14 species of reptiles, fish and butterflies.
Tourist Attraction
The Murchison Falls
The falls are a major attraction in this park and can be accessed by boat on River Nile from Paraa to the bottom of the falls, or by road to the top of the falls. Along the 7km river stretch, are plenty of water birds, Hippos, Crocodiles, Bush-bucks, Water-bucks, Lions, Leopards, Jackals, Warthogs, Buffaloes, Hartebeests, Kobs, Oribis, Giraffes, and Elephants. All these can be seen while on the game reserve.
Murchinson Falls National Park
Day 1: Arrival, transferred to Hotel depending on the time of arrival. O/N Central Inn HB Basis.
Day 2: After breakfast, drive west of Uganda to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover at ziwa rhino sanctuary. In the evening, visit top of the falls. O/N Red chili FB Basis.
Day 3: Early morning game drive, return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon boat cruise upon the Nile launch trip with refreshing diversity of animal and bird species. Return to the lodge late in the evening. O/N Red chili FB Basis.
Day 4: After early morning breakfast, drive to Entebbe arriving in the afternoon then fly out.
