Queen Elizabeth National Park enjoys a fabulous rift valley location at the foot of Mt. Rwenzori between Lake George and Lake Edward. Savannah, Acacia woodland, forest, wetland, and open water support a wide range of animals and a remarkable 604 bird species.
World Bio-sphere reserve (UNESCO 1979), RAMSAR wetland site, and classified as Important Bird Area (IBA) by Birdlife International.
Most area is covered by water, thickets rain forests, swamps and savanna grasslands. This is a habitat for at least 98 mammals, 606 bird species and various species of fish, insects & reptiles.
Tree Climbing Lions in Ishasha sector
This park is famous for Tree Climbing Lions in Ishasha sector, Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura, nature walks in Maramagambo forest and boat trips on the Kazinga Channel to the shores of Lake Edward at Mweya peninsula. While on the boat, you can easily see Elephants, Buffaloes, Hippos, Nile Crocodiles, and a lot of water birds (over 600 other species) on the shores. The park also hosts Kobs, Lions, Leopards and Hyenas. There are also game drives to Kasenyi matting grounds.
